Although I couldn't entirely cover all of the funniest cartoon characters, I have listed my favorites and those that would bring back a lot of fun memories for a lot of us.
50. Johnny Bravo (Johnny Bravo)
"I am Johnny Bravo, the one-man army!", one of the self-indulgent cartoon characters, who makes us laugh with his hilarious pick-up lines along with his strange behavior.
He is a not-so-intelligent blonde stereotyped male who is 19 years old, who somehow manages high school without intelligence nor common sense.
Slap-stick comedy and also filled with adult humor throughout the show. Johnny's birthday is on Valentine's Day (14th February) and his hairstyle was based on Brad Pitt's hairstyle in Johnny Suede.
49. Snowbell (Stuart little)
A white Persian Cat that is lovable on the outside but cowardly, shallow, and a bit selfish on the inside.
He and Stuart were both early risers which was the only thing they had in common.
His struggle to stop himself from eating Stuart and hiding the fact that he is living with a mouse from his Smokey's alley cat gang cats are funny.
He always ends up unwillingly protecting Stuart although he hates him as he is also a family member makes it comical with a hint of love.
48. Rabbit (Winnie the Pooh)
"Let's pretend it isn't, and see what happens." Rabbit is a compulsive and fussy guy, who has OCD which makes him get frustrated with the resident's antics but despite which he is one of the most cherished members in Winnie's circle of friends.
(All of Winnie the Pooh character(s) having a mental disorder is a second-hand observation and a theory but was not the intention of the original author)
Unlike other characters, Rabbit is portrayed as a real animal rather than a stuffed toy, which may lead to the conclusion that he is the most frustrated character out of the lot.
His "By the Books" motto is often interrupted by the others and his handling of the situation is funny.
47. Tigger (Winnie the Pooh)
"Name's Tigger. T-I-double guh-er!" is a stuffed toy of Christopher who seems to have ADHD and can never stay in one place which explains him bouncing all the time?
He has a comedic personality compared to others and is indeed reckless which makes us laugh at the actions that cause trouble to everyone around him including himself.
His optimistic approach provides confidence, joy, and optimism to all the members of Pooh's friend circle.
46. Samosa (Simple Samosa)
"Sumo Momo", reasonably the newest cartoon character out of the lot that made it into the list.
Disney's new show that was aired in 2018 is an Indian animated series now available in English.
Coming back to our hero the Samosa also known as the Simple Samosa is an enthusiastic and vibrant kid that saves the day along with his other three friends (Vada, dhokla, and Jalebi).
He tends to lie about his accomplishments that he has never actually done. Except for Vada who idolizes him knows that he is lying but the way he gets into trouble with all the lying makes it more hilarious to watch.
45. Buttercup (Powerpuff Girls)
"It takes a lot more than a couple of cheap shots to make us cry." The tough middle sister of the trio is often portrayed as the meanest of them all.
She is the goofiest and known for her aggressive behavior, rebelliousness, and disliking girly things.
Again, a reckless character that makes us laugh when Blossom tries making decisions as to the leader.
She has a reason to be mean, she was named Buttercup because it also starts with B and doesn't have any superpowers like the other two.
Well, at least she's the one who won our hearts by being the toughest fighter.
44. Sokka (Avatar: The Last Airbender)
"Drink cactus juice! It'll quench ya! Nothing's quenchier, it's the quenchiest!" The Water Tribe warrior of the Southern Water Tribe, who was like a family to Aang (The Last Airbender) in his initial years him not liking Aang and disagreeing in his decisions that always led him to make some slapsticks situations.
He learns a lot during the travel with Aang in the later period, but the animated series focused on the younger version which was always funny as he tries to be the man of the group but does all silly stuff ending up him getting words from his sister.
43. Ron Stoppable (Kim Possible)
"Boo-yah!" Ronald Stoppable was the polar opposite character of the show's star Kim, but a faithful sidekick, best friend, and eventually her boyfriend.
The drastic difference in their characters makes him stand out more and makes him look silly which also is a part of why he is the funniest character of the show.
He is also the only character to have the most diverse character in the show.
His overreaction to even the smallest of things makes the episodes interesting and funny. John Cena auditioned for the role of Ron which he didn't get leading him to become a professional wrestler.
42. Goofy (Mickey Mouse)
"Gawrsh!" known for his clumsiness is a unique character out of the main characters of the Mickey Mouse franchise.
A cross between human and dog. He does slapstick comedy and belonged to the trio of best friends alongside Mickey and Donald.
He was conceived as a one-shot character, but due to his incredible popularity amongst the audience quickly became a recurring character in the franchise itself and even got his own family and separate movie.
41. King Julien XIII (Madagascar)
"Shh! We're hiding. Be quiet everyone. That includes me." This very sentence shows who he is… King Julien the lemur is a self-proclaimed king of the central park zoo.
He is the ultimate party animal and is so full of himself. He is the most eccentric and colorful character of the franchise.
His character was originally intended to be a minor character with just one or two lines, but the voice actor Sacha Baron Cohen when auditioning for the role improvised his performance which was so funny that the filmmakers rewrote the script and made him a prominent character.
40. Homer Simpson (The Simpsons)
"D'oh!" Homer is the main protagonist of the Simpsons series. The father of the household, but is the laziest character who is portrayed as stupid at times.
Opposite to his abilities and skills he is overconfident of himself which sadly ends up being unsuccessful often.
His being oblivious with a short attention span compliments his character. Homer and his family were awarded a star on the Hollywood walk of Fame.
39. Spud (Bob the Builder)
"Oh, yes, yes, yessity yes!" Spud is a scarecrow with a naughty personality. His clumsiness makes his efforts result in disaster trying to help Bob and his crew.
He causes more problems than he solves and is a comic-relief scarecrow who carries the show in a more hilarious way.
He is also known to be a trickster and has the most amount of catchphrases out of all the characters in the series.
38. The Lemmings (Grizzy and the Lemmings)
A French animated series first aired in 2016 is a dialogue-less series. Located in Canada lost in the middle of the untamed wilderness, a bear and a group of lemmings fight over the territory of the forest ranger's house.
The Lemmings the most offensive and ridiculous mammal family that exists, become a pain in the neck for Grizzy the bear who wants to live like a man being top of the food chain.
It's a total madness usually fighting over their favorite food, is a comical act-filled character that brings laughter.
37. Big Ears (Make way for Noddy)
"You funny little Noddy!" Big Ears is a Brownie who uses magic sometimes and acts as a father figure to Noddy.
He's grumpy and nonchalant character portrays that of a typical father in every household and somehow is funny considering his other traits.
Noddy has a lot of variants in the television adaptation (Noddy, Noddy's Toyland Adventures, etc) among them, 'Make way for Noddy' was the most popular.
36. Grim (The Grim adventures with Billy and Mandy)
The Grim Reaper is the personification of Death who speaks with a Jamaican accent, is a character who gets easily tricked just like how he was tricked into being Billy and Mandy's best friend/slave and a lot of other characters too.
Opposite of his appearance he tends to be warm-hearted and has a similar personality with Mandy.
He prefers to be with Billy cause he treats him well but gets annoyed with Mandy over his stupid acts.
This character focuses on comedic responses that are not shown outrightly with a hint of dark humor.
35. Clover (Totally Spies)
"Oh, my!", Clover Edwing is the only one out of the lot that acts like a typical teenage girl.
She loves fashion, shopping, and fangirling over handsome guys. Even though she is fierce when it comes to fighting off bad guys, she has this silly side to her that makes her lovable and brings smiles to our faces.
The WHOOP organization they work for actually means World Organization Of Human Protection and Clover has the very first line in the series.
34. Coop (Kid Vs. Kat)
Coop Burtonburger the protagonist's sister brings home a strange stray cat. And that is when Coop's life shatters as he finds that the cat is an alien that despises mankind.
The battle between the two in everyday situations and how he struggles to warn others about the truth that is happening carries the show in a funny way.
33. Casper (Casper's Scare School)
"Grrr…", Casper the 200-year-old young ghost who has been forced to attend basic public education to learn how to scare humans as he is very helpful and kind to the extent that he even helps his enemies.
He's trying to help his loved ones despite his originality that is to scare humans is so endearingly beautiful, yet shows a lot of his vulnerable and funny sides that make the show laughable.
32. Uncle (Jackie Chan Adventures)
"Never question Uncle!" "Yu Mo Gui Gwai Fai Di Zao" Unspecified relative of Jackie Chan, as a Chi wizard often aids Chan's fight against evil.
His signature two-fingered slapping and "One more thing" phrases are so memorable. His quirky stereotypical mentality makes him funnier compared to values followed by Jackie and Julie.
His witty and sensible remarks and counters compliment his character also making him effortlessly funny.
Uncle's character is based on Charles Chan who is Jackie Chan's father.
31. Henry (Oswald)
"Slow and steady." As his motto, the downstairs neighbor and best friend of Oswald is a male penguin with a habit of trying different things in every way possible.
Although he does his best to maintain a rigid schedule to take care of his spoon collection while ending his night by doing Penguin Polka before bedtime he is a very unique character in the whole franchise.
His different personality makes him fun to watch in the show where Oswald is opposite to Henry's personality.
30. Scooby (Scooby-Doo)
"Scooby Dooby Doo", the best friend of Shaggy Rogers is the great Dane mascot of their Mystery Inc., who shares his personality traits with his owner Shaggy mostly being hungry and being scared easily.
The personality that makes us laugh and the ridiculous things he does for food and the way he is tricked into doing heroic things done by Shaggy's friends are the highlights of the show.
Scooby was named after a nonsense lyric from Frank Sinatra's song "Strangers in the Night".
29. Ben Tennyson (Ben 10)
"It's Hero Time!", the youngest of the Tennyson family – Benjamin Kirby Tennyson finds the Omnitrix at a young age of 10 gets the responsibility of being a hero.
His clumsy and immature personality was a given statement of who he was since his childhood.
Even after becoming a teenager, he was still cocky, childish, and arrogant. His attention-seeking behavior annoyed everyone around him, but that is what made him more charming to the viewers.
His silly and unintelligent actions and remarks keep the audience entertained through the timeline. From ben 10 to Omniverse he shows character development.
Ben has three cousins including Gwen, they are Sonny and Ken.
28. Pingu (Pingu)
"Noot Noot!" Pingu is a cheerful loving penguin who lives with his family in the South Pole.
Even though like any other child he is learning and evolving, his mischievous and troublesome traits make him enjoyable to watch.
As a character that has been part of the childhoods of most adults today, the childish naughtiness and troubles leave us with lingering memories of the entertaining cartoon character.
Pingu was used as a UNICEF spokes-character in many countries.
27. Candace Flynn (Phineas and Ferb)
"MOM! Phineas and Ferb are building something", the typical teenager girl as described by the show creators, enjoys hanging out with her friends and fantasizing about boys.
Her urge to be able to lead and project control over everything and everyone around her leads to her obsession with busting her brothers.
Candace's panic and frustration are always fun to watch as she never backs down from trying to expose her brothers to her mom despite a considerably long record of failures.
Heinz Doofenshmirtz is the biological father of Candace and Phineas, making Ferb step-sibling to both of them.
26. Thomas (Thomas & Friends)
"Hello! I'm Thomas and I'm the number one blue engine", is a cheeky little guy who gets into trouble mostly by being overly curious to try to do things better than others.
His silliness and the dramatic responses he gives after causing trouble as never boring. Thomas was based on London Brighton and South Coast Railway with extended sidetracks.
25. Robin (Teen Titans Go)
"Titans, GO!", Richard Dick Grayson – commonly known as Robin also the leader of Teen Titans is a mad perfectionist who constantly tries to make his team flawless.
Despite his leadership position and authority his team often disregards the orders given by him.
His fear of losing control drives him crazy and is fun to watch as wholesome content.
Robin's favorite aunt is named Cecilia.
24. Popeye (Popeye the Sailor)
"Ahoy!", The sailor is known for his squinting right eye, huge forearms with anchor tattoos, and corncob pipe.
Contrasting his character description of a rough and tough sailor he is also a guy with a heart of gold.
His different traits contradict himself while fighting foes and protecting the weak. His slapstick comedy outsells the other characters throughout the whole series.
Popeye is 86 years old as of 2022.
23. Lamput (Lamput)
A silent mini-series, where an orange gooey substance named "Lamput" tries to escape from two Docs named Specs and Skinny who are trying to capture him.
Lamput's ability to shapeshift always leaves the two docs in failure. The Witty handling of situations by Lamput makes the series interesting.
This character was inspired by the Old Nickelodeon logo and is an Indian cartoon.
22. Spongebob (Spongebob Squarepants)
"Aye-aye, captain!", Spongebob is a childish and clumsy sea sponge who lives in a pineapple.
He is a fun, hyperactive, and clueless sea fellow who is smart enough to fix problems.
His way of speaking and comedic responses make him enjoyable to watch. The characters of Spongebob were created by an actual biologist named Stephen Hillenburg for Nickelodeon.
21. Squidward (Spongebob Squarepants)
"Oh, puh-lease." "Whatever." The grumpy neighbor and coworker of Spongebob is an arrogant artist and musician as well.
Squidward is often described as rude, stubborn, bad-tempered, and sarcastic. His witty and sarcastic remarks make him funny and show that satire is present in his life as well.
Despite his name Squidward, he is an octopus.
20. Doofenshmirtz (Phineas and Ferb)
"Bewege dich nicht!" (Don't move in German). Heinz Doofenshmirtz is also known as Dr. Doofenshmirtz is a 47-year-old evil scientist.
Goofy, eccentric, and overly-dramatic guys who tend to babble random things. He loves acting out like the cliché classic villains.
His peculiar sense of humor, butchering words and phrases, often mispronunciations are the salt added to his personality.
19. Mr. Bean (Mr. Bean the animated series)
"Ow Teddy!" The most loved comedy cartoon series. He rarely speaks and is always seen with his toy teddy who is also his best friend or at least that is what he calls him.
His unusual schemes and differences in handling everyday tasks make him humors to watch. Mr. Bean's flat number was 2.
18. Dexter (Dexter's Laboratory)
"No, Dee Dee, no!" He is an extremely intelligent boy who loves creating fantastic inventions since he was a baby.
His conflict with his sister Dee Dee is the humorous touch of the characters. He often fails at his work due to his over-excitement that makes him take careless decisions leading to failures.
Dexter's Laboratory is one of the first cartoons of Cartoon Network.
17. Fred Flintstone (Flintstones)
"yabba dabba doo!" Frederick J Flintstone tends to be loud-mouthed and offensive. He constantly plans out ways of improving his family's working-class that ends in unintended results.
Despite being the adult of the family, he is childish, impulsive, and ill-tempered which just makes him look like a mad man.
His silly actions bring out laughter in the audience. Fred and Wilma Flintstone were the first animated married couple ever to be shown on American television on the same bed together!
16. Pumbaa (Timon & Pumbaa – The Lion King)
"Hakuna Matata" Pumbaa is a loving, open-hearted character who shows childlike naivety and innocence through the series.
His childish nature is often mistaken as stupidity. The difference between him and Timon makes the duo a hit and they never fail to put a smile on our faces every time we watch them.
Pumbaa was the first character to ever fart in a Disney movie.
15. Rico (Penguins of Madagascar)
"This madness ends now!", Skipper, Kowalski, Barry, and Rico the four penguins who join forces to bring peace upon the central zoo park.
Rico is the crazy, insane, and lovable character out of the four brothers. His not-so-normal actions and triggers of psychopathic symptoms often come out as comedic acts when the four are on a mission.
The film and animated series share the same name.
14. Tow Mater (Cars)
"Dad-gum." The clumsy mascot of Cars. He is often shown as a silly goofy guy who roams around the scarping waste.
His thoughtless actions often lead to trouble but is a faithful best friend of McQueen and often is portrayed heroically.
Mater's license plate is A113 which is a recurring number in Pixar movies.
13. Garfield
"Love me, feed me, never leave me" "When the lasagne content in my blood gets low, I get mean" the lasagne lover Garfield is an overweight orange tabby cat known for his laziness.
He has sarcasm, arrogance, and an intense passion for food. He loves mocking the stupid actions of Jon (his owner) and the dim-witted pet dog Odie.
Garfield is a character that is iconic through the years. He was first premiered as a comic strip character in the newspaper in 1978.
12. George (George of the Jungle)
A friendly yet dim-witted strong man in a loincloth that lives in the jungle of Africa along with Apes.
He has incredible strength and bravery but lacks common sense. A classic comedic animated series filled with laughter that surrounds the main character George who often tends to do silly things in the name of fixing problems.
The series first aired in 2007 for one year and returned after 8 years in 2016 which also ended in 2017.
11. Taz (Looney Tunes)
Tazmanian Devil commonly referred to as Taz, is a dim-witted teenager typed guy with a short temper and very little patience.
His appetite has no bounds and eats anything and everything. His speech is known to consist of only grunts, growls, rasps, and screeches are the fun part of his character and bring instant laughter.
10. Jake Long (American Dragon: Jake Long)
"Aw, Man" "Dragon Up" a young dragon named Jacob "Jake" Luke Long who lives as a hybrid Chinese-American or simply Asian-American teenager boy who lives in New York City.
Jake comes off as the average laid-back and flirtatious teenager who tried to present himself as a cool kid around the block.
He is both stubborn and careless that results in a lot of slapstick comedic actions and the dragon form of him is really silly which is entertaining.
Long is the Chinese word ( 龙: Lóng) for Dragon and so he is named Jake Long.
9. Wile E. Coyote (Looney Tunes)
The constant efforts of him trying to catch and eat Road Runner are the humor as it almost always ends up in him being severely injured.
He often uses products from fictional ACME company which he believes would help me catch the roadrunner.
Wile was inspired by the American humorist Mark Twain, and his name Wile is a pun of the word "willy"
8. Sylvester (Looney Tunes)
"Sufferin' Succotash!" Tuxedo cat that shows pride and persistence. He is a loser despite his persistence in the Looney tunes winner/loser hierarchy.
His trademark sloppy lisp and the plans that are clever but end in failure are fun to watch.
Despite his character name being Sylvester, he was first called Thomas in his 1st appearance.
7. Elmer Fudd (Looney Tunes)
"Shhh… be vewy vewy quiet, am hunting wabbits!" one of the most famous characters of the franchise Looney tunes.
He aims to hunt Bugs bunny despite him being a vegetarian, but as we know it often ends up in him getting severely injured.
He cannot pronounce the letters R & L and replaces them with W, a trait he shares with Tweety.
Google search engine is translated into many languages which include Elmer Fudd's too.
6. Tom (Tom & Jerry)
Thomas Cat is a grey anthropomorphic short-haired cat. Originally named Jasper, his personality has changed remarkably over the years.
The classic slapstick cartoon character is usually defeated by Jerry and ends up making us laugh in the process.
Tom and Jerry is a Czech cartoon that debuted in 1940 making it one of the oldest to be still running.
Tom becomes Jerry's friends in the series and has a separate series where they work together.
The show has won 7 Oscar awards.
5. Michelangelo (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles)
"Cowabunga!" "It's a kodak moment!" The youngest of the four ninja turtles wearing an orange eye mask is the most memorable and funniest character of the franchise.
As a boy who loves being immature and always wanting pizza, he is often mistaken to be weak, but he is just silly and makes a lot of comedic actions that make him stand out, which also makes the other four get worried about him but he makes it in the end.
The names of the turtles were named after the Italian Renaissance artists, and Michelangelo was after Michelangelo Buonarotti – a sculptor.
4. Kick Buttowski (Kick Buttowski)
"Yeah, Brad" "I'm Kick Buttowski! And Kick Buttowski never quits", a 10-year-old boy who aspires to be the world's greatest daredevil.
He is a stubborn, hard-headed boy who never quits given a challenge. He speaks in a quiet and serious tone.
The fight between him and his brother who is constantly trying to expose him and his efforts in becoming the daredevil he encounters a lot of comedic situations making the cartoon enjoyable.
Despite Brad being older in the cartoons, the voice actor of Kick was 9 years older than Brad's.
3. Daffy Duck (Looney Tunes)
"Youuu're deththpicable", the famous Daffy Duck of our childhoods. The rival and occasional best friend of Bugs Bunny has gone through a lot of changes as the creators kept changing his abilities and appearances.
Daffy is an American black duck voiced by Mel Blanc for 52 years. Daffy has the middle name, Dumas.
His slobbery lisp was developed over time and is barely noticeable in earlier cartoons.
2. Bugs Bunny (Looney Tunes)
"What's Up Doc?", Bugs is an anthropomorphic grey hare who is famous for his relaxed – passive personality.
He is a mischievous trickster who always is chewing carrots. His charisma is unbeatable even in modern times that has given him advantages in various situations with his rivals, enemies, or opponents.
Needless to say, a legend. He is honored with his postage stamp in 1997. First voiced by Mel Blanc (who also voices Daffy), has changed by various others over years.
1. Pink Panther (The Pink Panther Show)
The fictional animated character who was created for the opening credits of the movie "The Pink Panther" was later developed into a series due to its popularity.
His name comes from the pink diamond, the prankster likes pulling pranks on the janitor whenever he's seen.
His high level of curiosity and love of discovering new things makes him get into situations which he handles with his sneaky sense and ends up pranking someone responsible.
